I woke up to an obnoxious drone echoing through the hall and into my bedroom. It was coming from the kitchen.
I lazily let my eyes drift from the twirling fan to the window. I groaned. Crap. What time was it? I fumbled around for my bedside alarm clock to stop the echoing noise, but when I clicked the snooze button, the sound failed to cease. So I lay there, dumbfounded.
Oh, right... I suddenly remembered- the buzzing was coming from the kitchen. That could only mean on thing. I tore the covers off my body and practically tripped down the stairs, still in my pajamas. I slid into the kitchen and saw what I expected to see- my snowy white Maltese, eating from her tiny little bowl by the laundry room. I picked her up and turned her a little to inspect her collar.
As I had hoped, my little device had worked. The strange, annoying, buzzing noise had came from my dog's collar. I must say, I was pretty impressed. I put that thing together with only a few trinkets I found around the garage. I didn't expect it to actually work as my alarm clock like I had wanted it to.
I snuggled my dog a bit before setting her down and glanced at the kitchen clock hanging above the microwave.
Oh, crap! I was going to be late for the bus!
I turned around, scrambled up the stairs, and disappeared into my bedroom, where I quickly pulled on some clothes.
I swept into my light blue bathroom to put on some final touches, and afterwards, stood back to observe myself in the mirror.
God, do I look great or what? I thought to myself. I stroked my medium-long, naturally wavy, brown-and-blonde hair. I'm serious, this is the only reason I like myself. It splits right down the middle, with little curls in the front. A wavy, natural-highlighted masterpiece.
Admit it, my hair is awesome.
Realizing that it wasn't such a good idea to stand around and bask in the glow of my beautiful hair, I slid down the stairs again, grabbed a Poptart, and ushered my dog into the laundry room.
After one last check to make sure all the windows and doors where closed, I grabbed my backpack, my purse, and my phone, and shot out the door. The sky was gray and cloudy, and there was an aroma of damp wood in the humid air. It must have rained overnight. I slid into my bus stop just in time to haul everything up on the school bus and take my seat in the very back.
I sighed and took out my phone to play.
Definitely just another ordinary day in New York.
